Polestar: web offset to replace gravure

cilinderPolestar, one of the largest print shops for newspapers and magazines, saw its turnover decline rapidly because of the fall in circulation. According to the company falling run lengths and pagination levels result in a move away from gravure towards pagination web offset presses.

For this reason Polestar recently installed the first 96 page Goss press as part of an investment of a total of UKP50M in rotation offset. At the same time Polestar is slimming down by closing down print shops (Colchester and Leeds) which reduced the number of employees by 129 to 1,718. Last year the turnover fell 9.4% to UKP216.4M pounds.
