The Scottish will also move to polymer banknotes. The Clydesdale Bank, one of the three banks that produce money, has asked banknote printer De La Rue to print the new 10 pound note. They had already asked to change the 5 pound note. The new 10 pound note will, just like the paper note, have the Scottish poet Robert Burns and an image of Edinburgh. The security characteristics will be a transparent part, and special optic variable inks which change colour. According to a Clydesdale Bank manager the introduction of the new 5 pound note has reduced counterfeit notes and the polymer banknote is said to be more environmentally friendly.
The polymer Scottish 10 pound note will be introduced in September, just like the new polymer note by the Bank of England. The English have also released a polymer version of the 5 pound note last year.
The Bank of Scotland recently introduced their own 10 pound note, made of polymer with the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, famous from the Harry Potter movies, and an image of the Scottish poet/writer Sir Walter Scott.
