Polymer banknotes in Britain

pondThe earlier announced new polymer £5 note has been launched this month. Banknote printer De La Rue had the honour to print these and expects that the polymer note will eventually replace the paper one. The £5 note has the image of Winston Churchill. The £10 note, expected next year, will have Jane Austen´s image. The £20 note is also expected to be replaced by a polymer note. Polymer is said to be cleaner and up to 2.5 times more durable. The New Fiver has a number of security features which make it even harder to counterfeit. These include the see-through window and the foil Elizabeth Tower which is gold on the front of the note and silver on the back. The border of the window changes from purple to green when the note is tilted.
