Kodak continues to invest

Kodak_Drupa_2016-177-2“Everything is going really well with Kodak” says Peter Trampler, in charge of Kodak Northern Europe, during an informal press conference in Haarlem, the Netherlands.
Pim Nijenhof, Kodak Benelux, focused mainly on the continuing NexPress success. 48 of these NexPress digital presses are currently being operated in the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg). “We do not even want to compete with other four-colour digital presses. Someone who owns a NexPress does so because of the added features such as a 5th colour, the gold, silver and gloss varnishes, security features such as watermark or light black for photobooks.”  Nijenhof mentions NexPress customer fotofabriek.nl who won an award for best photobook manufacturer.
And Kodak will continue to invest in the Nexpress digital press. The new generation will get the same look and feel, but will be equipped with even more powerful printheads. Print shop Van Vliet in Hoorn, the Netherlands, will be the first to own such new generation digital press.

Prosper for sale

Trampler says: At drupa we showed what where we stand. Our customers know that Kodak continues to invest and remains a great partner for the future.”  Unfortunately Kodak´s Prosper (inkjet) division is for sale because of debts resulting from a near bankruptcy (Chapter 11) in 2012, but the future is bright says Trampler. Kodak had a good 2nd quarter and expects to see a year end result of between $1.5 and $1.7 billion.

Thin-layer

We are looking forward to an interesting future for the so-called thin layer technology says Trampler. He did not explain any further and we are not aware of any products using this thin layer technology. “It is not as fast as we would like, but it is very promising.”
