Exhibiting in 15 stands throughout the show, as well as their own in the USA Pavilion

Ann Arbor, Michigan – April 18, 2016 – Xitron, the leading independent developer of RIP and workflow products for commercial, digital, and high-speed inkjet printing announced plans to showcase their latest product developments during Drupa, the world’s largest trade show for print and cross- media solutions. Most of the new products will be prominently featured in the stands of more than a dozen partners who are also exhibiting at the show in Dusseldorf, Germany.

“People in the industry are often surprised to learn that Xitron is the name behind so many of the RIP and workflow products offered by leading vendors,” said Karen Crews, President of Xitron. “Our growing list of OEM partners reads like the ‘Who’s Who’ of high-speed inkjet and traditional commercial prepress.”

On display during the show will be workflow products designed for Colordyne (5-C24), Glunz & Jensen (05-C38), CST (05-C03), Presstek (15-D29), Ohio Gravure (16-D10), Krause (07-D28), Trojanlabel (3- B31), Luscher (16-C07), International Graphic Systems (3-B58), and PrePress Boulevard (13-G78), just to name a few.

Exhibiting on their own stand in Hall 15/C54-4, Xitron will formally introduce a new CTP interface designed to drive SCSI-based platesetters such as Creo Trendsetters and the Fuji VX series. This patent-pending technology is the first of its kind, promising a new option for users whose equipment had reached end-of-life due to a lack of compatible SCSI interaction with modern operating systems.

“This was an extremely important development in interface technology,” said Crews. “Because newer RIPs and workflows could no longer communicate with them through the SCSI bus, owners of these expensive platesetters were being forced to buy all new equipment costing tens of thousands of dollars.

page1image17360
Xitron’s USB/SCSI interface can be configured with a Raster Blaster TIFF catcher to work with any workflow product from vendors such as Kodak, Fuji, and Agfa, or driven directly with Xitron’s own Navigator RIP and Workflow.”

In addition, Xitron will be demonstrating new RIP and workflow versions. Featured prominently will be Navigator 11, the latest Harlequin RIP release, which includes several speed, memory, and live transparency improvements. Navigator 11 is the core RIP product in Xitron’s Navigator Northstar and Navigator OKI workflows, which include color matching software for use with Memjet Northstar printers from AstroJet, Colordyne, and Neopost as well as OKI 900 series printers.

According to Crews, more product announcements will be forthcoming in the weeks leading up to Drupa.

An important element of these events is networking. More than 8 events have been planned. Read about them in the press release below.

PRESS RELEASE

FESPA’S WORLDWIDE REGIONAL EVENTS REINFORCE PROFIT FOR PURPOSE PHILOSOPHY

This year, FESPA, in association with its regional associations, is hosting local events in Africa, Mexico and Europe as part of its Profit for Purpose reinvestment programme and educational commitment to the global print community.

Profit for Purpose is the central philosophy that drives FESPA, which pledges to support global printers through a multitude of projects including regional events, which provide professionals with opportunities to gain knowledge and network with peers and industry leaders. Building on the success of last year’s regional congresses in Southern Europe, the Nordics, Mexico and Africa, FESPA has once again committed to a programme of regional events for 2016.

Returning for its second edition is the Southern European Congress, this year taking place in Milan, Italy from 19 – 20 April, and organised by Apigraf (Portugal), FESPA España Asociación, FESPA France Association, and FESPA Italia Associazione. Over the two days, delegates will hear from leading experts on topics tailored to the needs of local speciality printers such as: The Wow Effect of Print as a Business Booster; Inside and Outside the Home; and Industrial and 3D Printing.

The Print Mexico Congress will also return for the second time on 19 May 2016 in Mexico City, supported by FESPA’s Mexican association, Canagraf. The one-day event will provide local printers with seminar and technical sessions on print trends and opportunities across digital, screen and textile, as well as providing them with the business tools to grow and enhance their businesses.

Following the positive interest received in the 2015 Brasil Forums, FESPA has also extended this roadshow event to Africa. The FESPA Africa Forums will take place in Lagos, Nigeria and Nairobi, Kenya, which are both growing economies, and will provide print and signage solution providers with the opportunity to connect with peers and experts, while learning how they can diversify and grow their businesses with some key sessions from FESPA’s South African association, Printing SA.

Sean Holt, FESPA General Secretary comments: “These events are all delivered in accordance with our Profit for Purpose programme, demonstrating our commitment to reinvesting in the global print community through a range of centrally funded and locally supported initiatives. The Southern European and Mexico Print Congresses in 2015 both received extremely positive feedback from delegates and we’re delighted to be able to bring them back for another year.

“Our Brasil Forums were also very well received, reaching a wider audience across the country which is why we have chosen to replicate this format in Africa. These forums will provide printers and sign-makers in East and West Coast Africa access to a FESPA event. Delivering events with local associations means that the content delivered are tailored to the needs of the market, and participation will introduce them to peers and experts with whom they can share knowledge and experiences.”

#7/11: The breakthrough of computer to plate at drupa 1995 versus the automated CtP systems of drupa 2016

15 apr 2016
Categorie:

Geranium 7Drupa 1995 was the definitive breakthrough of computer to plate as replacement of the labour intensive manual plate making. After the first small steps since 1990 drupa 1995 featured professional CtP systems from suppliers such as Agfa, Autologic, Cymbolic Science, Purup, Barco, Crea, ECRM, AM Varityper and Western Litho. Together they showed more than 50 different CtP systems. Systems which varied in the application of the light source and the plate positioning. Every kind of laser and even halogen light were used in flatbed and internal or external drum imaging systems.
Where the first CtP systems used expensive YAG laser which, with its green, 532 nanometer lightsource, drupa now showed blue gas lasers. These blue gas lasers turned out to be a mistake. They often could not work for more than 1,000 hours and were the quality was not consistent for day-to-day use. These two types of laser were soon replaced by the violet laser diodes which are now common in CtP systems. Read in the 7e “Drupa Behind the Geraniums” article how CtP grow to the complete automated, environmentally friendly systems on drupa 2016.

The breakthrough of computer to plate at drupa 1995 versus the automated CtP systems of drupa 2016

Creo Drupa 1995Drupa 1995 was the definitive breakthrough of computer to plate as replacement of the labour intensive platemaking with film. Every kind of laser and even halogen light were used and flatbed and internal or external plate imagers.

Where the first CtP systems used expensive YAG laser which, with its green, 532 nanometer lightsource, drupa 1995 now showed blue gas lasers. These blue gas lasers turned out to be a mistake. They often could not work for more than 1,000 hours and were the quality was not consistent for day-to-day use. These two types of laser were soon replaced by the violet laser diodes which are now common in CtP systems.

The first ´real´ CtP plates
Agfa Lithostar Ultra LAP-VIn 1993 Agfa introduced the first real CtP plate, the Lithostar. This plate made sure that Agfa became market leader after they acquired plate Kalle/Hoegst in 1998. Agfa´s success was soon copied by manufacturers such as Kodak and Fuji. These first CtP plates had their own issues. They often were not able to fulfil their specifications and sometimes damaged the top layer during the process. Even more important, the development process was inefficient and not environmentally friendly. These two problems ended when new types of CtP plates such as the Trendsetter 3244 by CtP pioneer Creo. Presstek, manufacturer of the imaging module such as used in the famous Heidelberg GTO DI, developed a plate which could be cleaned with water only. All those plates have now been replaced by chemical free plates by market leaders Agfa, Kodak and Fuiji. These manufacturers will show the new generation of CtP plates during drupa.

Plates with short imaging time for high runlenght numbers, even without baking. The improved image quality and shorter production times are a great weapon for any offset printer in the battle for competition. The improved resolutions of the plates, in combination with new raster technology ensure a high standard for quality printing.

Digital workflow the missing link
PrintCentral OPILarge format image setters equipped with a Postscript RIP were the reason that CtP had to search for a complete digital workflow. This search resulted in the advanced and automated pre-press systems which Agfa, Kodak, Screen and EFI will show at drupa 2016. Whilst the image setter output tolerated small mistakes and changing the film made last minute changes possible, CtP is ruthless. One mistake means that the plate has to be redone. The cost and time of this is prohibitive. A solution for this is a digital workflow which minimises the changes of mistakes. That was the missing link in 1993. Attempts at solutions were made with mini computers as image servers, hot folders and the first automation solutions by Aldus ColorCentral. At drupa 1995 our AM Europe stand showed the first digital workflow which really worked. It was designed by Freddy Cluckers and his team and automated pre-press for big companies such as Roularta. That was the start of the digital workflow systems we will see at drupa 2016. Systems which not only streamline CtP production, but also manage the acquisition of orders via Web2Print, compile big data through marketing modules and manage orders, from offer to invoice, with management information modules.
