Campaign (direct services Gütersloh GmbH), the direct marketing division of Bertelsmann Printing Group, has announced its planned investment in an inkjet printing solution from Screen for its site in Gütersloh, Germany.

The decision to invest in Screen’s Truepress Jet520ZZ has come following several months of exhaustive testing of different inkjet solutions including software and substrate compatibility. “After all of our tests and showing the results to our staff and customers, we have chosen Screen. The print quality they have been able to produce, combined with their deep understanding of producing colour, convinced us that Screen is the right partner for our growing colour volumes” said Mr. Kuntze, Production Manager mail & document solutions. The operations team from Campaign was also impressed of the colour consistency, the ease of use and the reliability that Screen was able to demonstrate.

The machine will be installed at Campaign’s head office site in Gütersloh, North Rhine-Westphalia shortly after drupa. Besides other business areas, the production location specializes in direct mail and transactional printing for nationally as well as internationally leading companies. “The ability to match corporate colours even on offset paper was critical to our choice of Screen. The Equios workflow software has an unrivalled toolset for identifying the best combination of CMYK to come closest to our customer’s brand colours”, continued Mr. Kuntze.

Campaign is installing Screen’s fastest inkjet printer, the Truepress Jet520ZZ. “This high-speed printer will deliver 2,000 A4 pages per minute at the highest quality” said Tim Taylor, Screen’s Vice President of Solutions & Technology. “Screen is delighted in working with such a prestigious German company and we look forward to building on this relationship as inkjet technology will develop over the coming years” added Taylor.

3D info op drupa: volg het Touchpoint programma

09 mei 2016
Categorie: ,

3D fab+print KCI Touchepoint
Open daily during drupa’s business hours, KCI’s 3D fab + print touchpoint will be found in Hall 7a at stand C41. It will form a meeting ground where thought leaders, industry professionals, exhibitors, and visitors working in both the 2D printing/packaging production, and 3D printing industries can come together to discuss thought-pro- voking ideas and share technologies and knowledge. The objective of the touchpoint is to encourage new technological integrations, even leading to new brand and production collaborations and partnerships between these three important industries. The 2D printing and pack- aging production industries will be able to come along and examine not only their present potential for 3D printing, which may not as yet have been fully realized, but will also be able to look at what 3D print- ing has to offer their businesses both now and for the future.

“Just come along to one of our networking events and have some fun! Have a drink with us and make some new friends and business partners. You might also just be the lucky person who wins one of the Cubicon Style 3D printers that will be given away, or gets a free, scaled bust of yourself, printed by one of our partners”, says Leslie Wood Account Manager 3D fab+print.

The Touchpoint will encompass a daily schedule of interactive presentation sessions. Each presentation will consist of a short lecture of 10-15 minutes and will be followed by a lively question and answer session with the audience (see the timetable below).

#9/11: Book on Demand op drupa 2004 versus ‘PDF in Book Out’ op Drupa 2016

06 mei 2016
Categorie:

SEI laser cutting technology for digitally printed packaging

05 mei 2016
Categorie: ,

logo_seiUp to 2,500 sheets per hour is the capacity of SEI´s new PaperOne laser cutter and finisher. SEI demonstrates the PaperOne with the HP Indigo at the HP stand in Hall 17 and at its own stand in Hall 12, stand D23. Read more about the PaperOne in the press release below.

SEI Laser introduces PaperOne for digital finishing and converting

PaperOne, developed in cooperation with HP, will be showcased at Drupa 2016 in the SEI Laser booth Hall 12 D23 and the HP booth in Hall 17

Curno, Italy – April, 2016 – PaperOne is the latest generation of a new modular platform for digital finishing and converting, featuring laser technology. Developed by SEI Laser in close collaboration with HP Indigo, PaperOne can handle complex die-cutting and finishing of packaging, greeting cards, books, leaflets, posters, and envelopes, at maximum speeds, with top quality and extreme accuracy.

PaperOne can process up to 2,500 sheets per hour and has an automatic pallet loading and unloading system. Its fast, accurate feeder can handle sizes of up to 53 x 75 cm, and thicknesses from 150 μm to 600 μm. It consistently die-cuts, micro-perforates, pierces, engraves and marks paper, corrugated board and adhesive-coated stocks as well as PP, BOPP and PET.

As a perfect match for the HP Indigo 10000, 12000 and 30000 Digital Presses, the advanced functionality of PaperOne will be demonstrated with an HP Indigo Digital Press in the HP booth (Hall 17) at Drupa 2016.

Saves setup time and costs
Of particular value to carton converters, PaperOne can be configured with three different wattage lasers, essentially doubling productivity and providing added redundancy and greater line speed.

PaperOne also addresses prior challenges involving creasing – effectively cutting and creasing the box in the right shape, ready for folding. This means creasing and folding can be done in-house in a simple, fast, and cost effective process.

With its clean cut feature, – achieved with specially designed head and optical configurations – PaperOne is ideal for cutting small and intricate designs, for both paperboard packaging and decorative commercial print jobs. QR codes and barcodes allow for auto-setting and change of process on the fly.

“It’s not enough to have a digital press to enter the digital business model,” said Ettore Colico, Sales Executive, SEI Laser. “The full workflow must be digital from the PDF to shipment. PaperOne fits in perfectly with a cloud workflow, and there is no waiting time, supply costs, or transport costs.”

More than a die-cutter
PaperOne was designed as a modular, multi-platform system, offering converters digital cutting as well as digital finishing, such as creasing and embossing. The creasing system can be set up offline, maximizing uptime of the machine. In addition, SEI Laser has designed a system that allows converters to make their own die plates using the unique creasing matrix system ProCrease PaperOne developed specifically for PaperOne by ManMat.

According to Colico: “The primary advantages of PaperOne are its higher speeds, much higher throughput, and lower cost consumables, and that it enables converters to bring the full manufacturing workflow in house.”

Additional finishing capabilities are in development, including a soon-to-be-released varnishing module. More capabilities will be announced at Drupa.

PaperOne can be connected by conveyor directly to an HP Indigo Digital Press, so the sheets feed directly into the press. Sheets can either be pile-fed, or the two machines can be linked together. Automatic, loading, unloading, and auto-setting eliminate the need for an operator.

“We are very impressed with the innovation involved in the PaperOne system, and believe it is an excellent match with our customers’ needs for quick, easy, and cost-effective setup,” said Gershon Alon, WW Manager, Workflow Solutions and Partner Program at HP Indigo. “The innovative creasing feature that allows for onsite preparation of a low-cost creasing plate is towel-suited to short-run digital in general, and is a perfect match with the HP Indigo 10000 12000 and 30000 Digital Presses in particular.”

Categorie:

Schermafbeelding 2016-05-05 om 13.06.10HP  is driving digital printing forward with an innovative new portfolio of business printers, including:

  • A new brand of HP PageWide printers that provide professional color, best-in-class cost of ownership1, fastest speeds2, best energy efficiency3, and the world’s most advanced security4 and management features in its class;
  • New HPOfficeJet Pro printers that deliver affordable, professional color and big performance in a compact package for small businesses;
  • New HPLaserJet printers with leading laser performance, print-shop quality color documents, and best value for black-and-white printing;
  • HP Secure Managed Print Services to help customers secure their print environment with the strongest protection available in the industry5.

“We’re reinventing printing for every business — large or small,” said Enrique Lores, president, Imaging and Printing, HP Inc.“Traditionally vendors have spoken about ‘Good, Better, Best’ where most customers have to compromise, but today we are promising ‘Best, Best, Best’ allowing our customers to determine the right print solution for their business, not their budget.”

Reinventing Business Printing with HP PageWide Technology
HP PageWide Technology is a proven, reliable scalable print technology developed by HP that has delivered more than 140 billion high quality digital pages via HP printers including large format printers and web presses. In addition to the new lineup of A4 devices early next year, HP will expand the reach of PageWide Technology to redefine the copier market with a new portfolio of A3 multifunction printers (MFPs).

“HP PageWide printers have exceeded our expectations in terms of quality and speed and have enabled us to be more productive in the way we work,” said Tim Larson, design principal, Downstream. “We operate in a demanding environment and are in the business of visual design so how things look on paper is important — HP is keeping up with us.”

The new HP PageWide business portfolio will be available through channel partners and at select retail stores. In addition, the new portfolio increases the number of managed devices designed for contractual channel partners and managed print services engagements. These contractual HP PageWide printers enable HP channel partners to provide low cost of operation with HP’s highest capacity supplies, a three-year print head warranty, higher speeds and RMPV on select models, as well as integration with HP JetAdvantage Management and third-party tools. By optimizing managed HP PageWide devices for contractual agreements, HP provides channel partners with new opportunities to deliver higher customer satisfaction.

New Additions to the HP OfficeJet Pro and LaserJet Pro families
The expanded HP business printing portfolio also includes new HP OfficeJet Pro and HP LaserJet printers, rounding out the options available to customers.

In the last decade, HP has created and firmly established the ink in the office category, offering small and medium businesses professional quality ink-based color printing at up to 50% lower cost per page than lasers6. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 series features HP Print Forward Design to provide customers productivity with high speeds in a space-saving design that helps preserve office real estate. These new printers also include enhanced manageability and security features, seamless mobile printing7, and access to the convenient and affordable HP Instant Ink supplies delivery program.

The HP LaserJet family provides customers with print shop document quality, fast speed and the best value on black-and-white printing. The new LaserJet products include Original HP Toner cartridges with JetIntelligence technology enabling the industry’s most advanced laser printing platform that offer leaner, faster, smarter options to help customers accelerate their business.

Reinventing protection with Secure Managed Print Services
Today HP is also introducing HP Secure Managed Print Services (MPS), a new Managed Print Services (MPS) offering focused on security. This enhanced service reflects HP’s defense-in-depth approach to delivering the most comprehensive device, data and document security8 available today. HP Secure MPS provides security experts with the ability to help customers secure their print environment with the strongest protections available in the industry and then maintain security over time to address evolving threats and compliance requirements.

HP Secure MPS advanced protections include:

  • The world’s most secure printers9 with self-healing capabilities
  • Security software to detect threats as well as protect, monitor and manage the printer fleet
  • Data encryption to better protect confidential data
  • Reporting for regulatory and compliance audits
  • Security expertise to co-develop a comprehensive print security plan

HP has also updated HP JetAdvantage Security Manager software, the industry’s only policy-based printer security compliance solution10, to enable greater visibility into what firmware updates have been applied across the HP printer fleet. This feature enables customers to see which of their printers are protected by HP’s advanced printer security including: HP Sure Start BIOS protection, whitelisting, and run-time intrusion detection. In addition, HP Enterprise printers can now be monitored for malicious activity by the SIEM tool Splunk. Based on a sampling of HP JetAdvantage Security Manager functionality, business customers can sign-up for HP Quick Assess, a free one-hour phone session to assess the vulnerability of their HP printer fleet (up to 20 devices) at www.hp.com/go/quickassess.

A book is more than just a cover
book-coversThe production of a cover is one of the challenges for Book on Demand. Use of colour, choice of material and print quality make or break book sales. If the inside of the book is printed on a different material or if monochrome is sufficient the cover needs extra attention. The finishing of the cover is also critical, especially with hard covers with a fabric binding. At drupa 2004 the solution most used was preprinted covers. This was a problem for books with smaller volumes. This problem will be solved by various manufacturers at drupa 2016. It will be interesting to see what the most efficient and economic solution is. Because the right solution will make the ever rising number of small volume books profitable. This growth is mainly due to the ease with which everyone with a computer and an internet connection can make a book. Services for self publishing authors such as Blurb and Amazon are also growing. They take away the work that is usually done by traditional publishers, from editing to marketing and distribution. Which proves that a book is more than just a cover.

PDF will save Book on Demand
pdf ButtonThe role of the portable document format is ambivalent. Whilst PDF facilitates the digital distribution of, often illegal, copies it at the same time saves the Book on Demand process. Because without a good PDF of the millions of available book titles it would be impossible to get a good Good on Demand process going. Making a PDF which can easily be transformed into a book is not easy. Unavailable fonts or unprintable images prevent good quality. The magic word is ´flight check´; checking the PDF for any technical problems before print. Pioneers such as Markzware, Enfocus and Callas have found a solution. Profiles made and provide by print companies allow writers and publishers to make the perfect PDF. A PDF which can be proofed and checked by the workflow of a Book on Demand system.

drupa cube 2016: Inspiration and innovation in some 60 keynotes, panel discussions and presentations from international experts

Boasting some 60 keynote speeches, panel discussions and presentations drupa cube, the event and congress destination at drupa 2016 (Hall 6, Stand D03), is a-buzz with know-how, inspiration and innovation. The big difference between drupa cube and other industry congresses around the globe is its focus on visitor target groups from the print industry as well as from the creative sector and from brand manufacturing and print buying. “If you want to master the current changes in the print industry, consistent change management is indispensable. This in turn only works out when you pursue a multi-disciplinary approach and look beyond your own backyard,” says Sabine Geldermann, Director of drupa, underlining the pioneering nature of drupa cube. “With The Medici Group, which is synonymous with “out-of-the-box” thinking, we have exactly the right partner by our side.” We are delighted to announce that Frans Johannsson, founder and CEO of The Medici Group, will be delivering two keynote speeches – the opening keynote on the first trade fair day, 31 May, and a second keynote on 2 June (both between 11.00 am and 11.45 am). British brand agency FreemanXP, headquartered in London, was commissioned with the strategic and creative design of the programme and the on-site implementation.

The English cube programme for the eleven trade show days is broken down into the following five areas: Keynotes, Business Evolution, Technology, Innovation@the Intersection and C-Level. The six sessions under the heading “Innovation@the Intersection” take a very special approach. In these sessions, covering sector-specific subjects such as “The Role of Large Format”, “The Role of Packaging in the Customer Journey” or “3D Print: Hope or Hype?”, experts from The Medici Group venture a broader view and show how easily innovative approaches from other industries can be transferred to the print industry.

The C-Level sessions address a clearly defined circle of participants from executive management level both on the exhibitors’ and visitors’ part. These C-Level sessions immediately follow the four keynotes and are designed as interactive workshops where strategic insider knowledge is shared. Each keynote speaker will act as a facilitator. Participation is by invitation only.

The Creative Day by W&V on 3 June (10.00 am to 3.45 pm) and the two half- day conferences of OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Association) on 2 June (2.00 pm to 4.30 pm) and on 7 June (11.00 am to 2.0 pm) round off the drupa cube programme. The complete programme is publicly available at the following link: www.drupa.de/drupa-cube

Participation in the cube programme is free for drupa visitors, i.e. included in the day-ticket price with one exception being the Creative Day. This event targets advertising and creative agencies, the media as well as advertisers. Interested parties can register for EUR 89.00 by 2 June at www.wuv.de/creativeday2016 where the complete programme is also available.
