Workintelligent.ly´s article on surviving the 21st century reads as if this is really simple for SMBs. Most of the business in our industry have already taken many of the steps as described by the site which is sponsored by Ricoh, such as automisation of the purchase department and remote working. But, it is good to go through the list and tick of the things you have already done.

Twitter use has fallen significantly over the past two years. Daily use by people between 20 and 29 fell from 58% to 45%. Fall was highest among teens. In the second quarter of 2013 80% of teens (between 12 and 19) who had the Twitter app installed checked their account more than once a day. In the second quarter of 2015 only 46% did. An increasing number of teens do not have a Twitter app on their smart phones. 7% say they never use the app. Two years ago this was 43%. According to research by Telecompaper Consumer Panel.
Note from our editor: this seems to be contrary to a recent press release about a strong growth in news consumption via Twitter and Facebook. Twitter also announced a growth in the number of users and advertisers last year.

Typeface designer Frere-Jones reveals a few secrets in his blog about designing a typeface. He shows how square and round shapes influence each other and why letters such as the ´o´ have to be larger than for example the ´a´to keep the right balance. With typography being increasingly recognised as part of the quality and success of content and design this is definitely something to bear in mind when choosing a typeface.

John Mohr, screen printer in the US, and son-in-law Alex White have developed a new ink variety based on coffee grounds. The idea came from the fact that natural pigments cause stains in clothing, such as coffee, red wine or beet juice, so it should be possible to turn these into inks. To make the ink the coffee grounds are mixed with vinegar and are boiled until it has a similar viscosity to screen inks. The other ingredients are a trade secret. An advantage of using coffee grounds is that it is organic waste which can be recycled, and vinegar is cheap, contrary to usual ink materials. There has been quite some demand for the inks from other screen printers, but Mohr is not selling at the moment. It is not just the inks that are different, the printing process, technique and curing are also different and the inventor prefers not to disclose this.
Currently the inks are being used for printing textiles, but apparently coffee ground ink would also be suitable for paper.
